On one hand, Jonah had a free will and willingly disobeyed God when God spoke to him the first time. On the other hand, God is very patient and longsuffering. The Israelites often would turn from God, but God said in Rom 11:29 “For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.” D.L. Moody's favorite verse was Psalm 62:11 “God has spoken once, Twice I have heard this: That power belongs to God.” When we hear the Word of the Lord, it has an echo effect. Jonah might of thought of it as the “ripple” effect: its an eternal echo. God is calling you to be holy, to pray, to walk with Him, to be salt and light. Have you heard this before?
